When you open AI Chat on a folder, it reads the files together and gives you one combined answer. AI Chat has no switch that runs your prompt on each file separately. To get one result per file, put the prompt in an automation instead.
When you want one result per file
Reach for it when you want the same analysis applied to many recordings:
- Research: “Extract the top 3 themes from this interview”
- Sales: “What objections were raised in this call?”
- Meetings: “Generate action items from this meeting”
- Customer feedback: “Summarize the customer’s main concern in this recording”
- Field extraction: “What is the participant’s age and role?”
Run a prompt on every new file in a folder
- Open Automations in the sidebar and select New automation.
- Choose the Media analyzed in folder trigger and pick the folder.
- Leave Run mode on Instant: when a file finishes processing.
- Add a Speak AI Chat step and type your prompt.
- Optionally pick fields under Extract Fields (optional) so each answer is saved on the file.
- Check that the switch at the top reads Active, then select Publish.
From then on, Speak runs the prompt on each new file in that folder as it finishes processing. Each run reads only that one file. Open the automation’s run history to see what each run produced, and see Actions for everything a Speak AI Chat step can do.
Files that were already in the folder before you turned the automation on are not processed. To try the prompt on one of them, use Test run on the automation and pick the file.
Compare the results across files
When the step writes its answers into AI fields, every file carries its own value. Open AI Chat on the folder and ask it to compare that field, for example “Compare sentiment across all files in this folder”. You get a table that lists each file’s value.
How a scheduled automation differs
Set Run mode to Schedule: run on a recurring schedule and the automation works like a folder prompt in AI Chat. It reads all the recordings from its time window together and gives one combined answer, such as a weekly digest. If the trigger watches more than one folder, turn on Run per folder to get one answer for each folder. A scheduled run never gives one answer per file.
