# List Labels

Use the Speak AI MCP server tool `list_labels` to list the workspace's labels as a
tree: groups (isGroup true) carry their labels in `labels`, and ungrouped labels sit
at the top level.

## What does it do?

List the workspace's labels as a tree: groups (isGroup true) carry their labels in
`labels`, and ungrouped labels sit at the top level. Each item has labelId, name,
description, color, parentId, source (`speak` for Speak label sets), usageCount and
isActive. Use the labelIds of non-group labels with `apply_label`. Anyone in the
workspace can read labels.

## Parameters

`list_labels` takes 2 parameters, all of them optional.

| Name | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `status` | enum | No | Which labels to list (default active) |
| `search` | string | No | Case-insensitive name match; a group is listed when it or any of its labels match |

## Behaviour

The Speak AI MCP server publishes these behaviour hints for `list_labels`.

- Only reads data. Does not modify your workspace.
- Does not delete or overwrite existing data.
- Repeating an identical call is safe.
- Stays inside Speak AI. Does not reach other systems.
