# Get a reminder before a meeting

Meeting reminders tell you when a meeting on your calendar is about to start. About 2 minutes
before the start, Speak AI sends a notification titled with the meeting name, with a **Join** button
that opens the meeting link. You can get it in your browser, on your phone, or both.

Reminders are off until you turn them on, and each person turns them on for themselves.

## What you need

- A calendar connected to the [Meeting Assistant](/help/meeting-assistant/), either
  [Google Calendar](/help/meeting-assistant/google-calendar/) or
  [Microsoft Calendar](/help/meeting-assistant/microsoft-calendar/).
- A meeting link on the calendar event. Speak AI only reminds you about events that have one.

Speak AI skips events that are not confirmed and events you have declined.

## Turn on reminders in your browser

1. Go to [Profile > Notifications](https://app.speakai.co/profile/notifications).
1. At the top of the page, select **Enable on this browser**, then allow notifications when your
   browser asks.
1. Under **Meetings**, turn on the **Web** switch for **Meeting reminders** ("Notify me 2 minutes
before a meeting with a link on my calendar.").

Each browser needs its own permission, so repeat step 2 on every browser where you want reminders.
To stop them on one browser, select **Turn off on this browser**.

The line at the top of the page tells you where this browser stands:

- **Reminders are enabled on this browser.** You are set up.
- **Reminders aren't enabled on this browser.** Select **Enable on this browser**.
- **Notifications are blocked for this site.** Allow notifications for Speak AI in your browser's
site settings, then come back to the page.
- **To get reminders on iPhone, add Speak AI to your Home Screen first.** On an iPhone, the browser
can show reminders only after you add Speak AI to your Home Screen.
- **This browser can't show notifications.** Use a different browser, or the mobile app.

## What a browser reminder looks like

If you are looking at a Speak AI tab when the reminder arrives, a card appears in the bottom corner
of the page with the meeting name, how many minutes are left ("Starts in 2 min", or "Starting
now"), and a **Join** button. **Join** opens the meeting link in a new tab. Close the card with the
**X**, or leave it and it goes away on its own.

Otherwise, your browser shows the reminder as a system notification. You need to be signed in to
Speak AI in that browser to get it.

## Turn on reminders on your phone

In the Speak AI mobile app:

1. Open your profile and select **Notification settings**.
1. Turn on the **Mobile** switch for **Meeting reminders**.
1. Allow notifications when your phone asks.

The app may also offer reminders on the **Record** tab with "Get a reminder 2 minutes before
meetings?". Select **Turn on** to set them up from there, or **Not now** to hide the offer.

## What a phone reminder does

- **Join** opens the meeting link.
- **Record** opens Speak AI and records with your phone's microphone, named after the meeting.
- Tapping the notification itself opens a meeting screen in the app with the same choices.

Nothing records until you tap **Record**.

## Turn reminders off

Go back to the same switch and turn it off: **Web** on
[Profile > Notifications](https://app.speakai.co/profile/notifications), or **Mobile** in
**Notification settings** in the app. To stop reminders on just one browser and keep them on
others, select **Turn off on this browser** in that browser.

Reminders are separate from the Meeting Assistant joining your calls. Turning them on or off does
not change your [auto-join](/help/meeting-assistant/auto-join/) settings.
